Following up on a rumor we reported last week, the Sony S1 tablet has officially been named the Tablet S while the pocket-sized S2 is now called the Tablet P. The Sony Tablet S features a 9.4-inch (1280 x 768) TFT screen, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, a 5MP shooter on the rear and is powered by Nvidia’s 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 SoC. The device weighs 1.33lbs and has a unique wedge-like shape.
Wireless connectivity is provided through Wi-Fi only and the device includes an IR port for AV controls with Sony's line of Bravia televisions as well as other devices supporting the Digital Living Network Alliance standards. The Tablet S is available for pre-sale today and will be on store shelves next month. The 16GB model sells for $499 while the 32GB version commands $599. Both flavors will ship with Android 3.1.
The Tablet P features two 5.5-inch 1024x800 displays, a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, dual 5MP cameras, an HSPA+ radio, 3,080mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage and a full-sized SD card slot. By the time the unit ships, it will be equipped with Android 3.2.
A range of optional accessories includes a cradle, AC adapter, LCD screen protector, carrying case and USB adapter cable for Sony Tablet S devices, and a rechargeable battery pack, AC adapter, LCD screen protector, carrying case and detachable panels for Sony Tablet P devices. A Bluetooth keyboard is also available for both models.
The Tablet P doesn’t have a release date yet but is expected later this year.
