Well, looks like Lifehacker, Gizmodo Servers Hacked again, this time by #anonymous. The hack seem to have affected Gawker Media servers, databases, online accounts and source codes which are targeted by hackers. A part of the hacked information is posted on pastebin.com by Gnosis and available there for anyone to read. Here is what the information at pastebin starts with.
So, here we are again with a monster release of ownage and data droppage. Previous attacks against the target were mocked, so we came along and raised the bar a little. **** you gawker, hows this for “script kids”? Your empire has been compromised, Your servers, Your database’s, Online accounts and source code have all be ripped to shreds! You wanted attention, well guess what, You’ve got it now!
They claimed to have got access to 1.3 million users database containing user names and hashes of passwords. Also, they have been able to crack hashes of ~200,000 user name passwords.
Because of this we were only able to recover the first 8 characters of someones password! If the password is 8 characters long there’s a good chance that it migt be longer than 8 characters! But still, there’s 1000′s of people using 1 – 8 character passwords for us to have some fun with!We managed to crack ~200,000 hashes, if you want the rest of them cracking
Hackers also mocked the founder of Gawker Media, Nick Denton, Nick’s online accounts on Google, Twitter and Campfire seem to be hacked and passwords revealed. In addition, account logins, passwords and emails were posted for other Gawker Media accounts.
We are still to get any official response from Gawker media. But for anyone, who have a account at any of these sites, please change your passwords. Even change the passwords of other sites which uses the same password. Also, make a stronger password next time using combination of letters, digits and special characters.
